FULL DESCRIPTION OF LISTING
Our dude ranch offers guests the opportunity to relax and connect with nature in our beautiful little mountain valley deep in the Tehachapis while horseback riding, hiking, and exploring our 31,000 acre cattle ranch. The golden hillsides are covered with oak trees in the lower elevations of 3,500’ here at ranch headquarters, but our cattle graze high in the mountains up to 6,500’ where the pines grow. Springtime provides a carpet of lush green hillsides and wildflowers with the California Poppy, lupine, baby blue eyes and more. Wildlife is abundant; deer, rabbit, squirrel, and coyotes are often seen, and our guest birdwatchers have spotted over 200 varieties of birds including the California Quail, meadow larks, and golden eagles in our valley. You’ll experience a variety of terrains on the trail rides which will take you down the creek, out in the meadow, and up and over our chaparral covered mountains on your two horseback rides each day. Rides begin after breakfast, however, the “early birds” enjoy the weekly sunrise ride leaving the corral at 5:30 a.m. Each ride is about an hour long. You’ll enjoy visiting with our experienced cowboy/wranglers who have worked on the ranch for years. When you return from your horseback rides, you can be as busy or as relaxed as you wish. A quick dip in our swimming pool (heated during regular season), or relaxing with a good book in our air conditioned recreation room may sound inviting. There are cards and games, puzzles, a pool table, and fooseball game too. For those who want more activity, there’s fishing, tennis, volleyball, badmitton, shuffleboard, horseshoes, ping pong, and archery. You may want to go for a hike or bike ride (bring your own bikes) and explore. The Piute Indians inhabited Walker’s Basin long before our family settled here in 1863, and there are still some “gossip rocks” down the creek. Ask about our “hiking backpacks” with lunches to go. You can escape and find a quiet spot and enjoy the glory of nature.
Families, couples, and singles all love our ranch activities. We only have 14 cabin rooms which accommodates 35 to 50 guests. Parents and grandparents find our ranch the perfect family vacation. It’s a great location for birthday and anniversary celebrations. Our wonderful supervised children’s program for ages 4 to 11 was acknowledged in Sunset Magazine, and we have been included in articles in Better Homes and Gardens and Parenting magazines. Children are never bored at Rankin Ranch. There are nature hikes, scavenger hunts, cowboy arts and crafts, boat and kite making and homemade ice cream to be made and enjoyed. Talent shows and pizza parties too! Everyone loves to feed the animals at the petting farm. There are calves to bottle feed; lambs, pigs and chickens to tend to. The children have their own horseback rides (starting at six years of age).
Everybody enjoys our home cooked meals complete with, top quality hand chosen meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade breads and desserts. Rudy, our ranch cook has been with us for 28 years now.
Evenings at the ranch for all ages includes hay wagon rides, barbecues, square dancing and western line dancing, bingo games with prizes, a “steak fry” for the adults and teens, and a “hot dog roast” complete with cowboy activities for the children (roping a steer head, stick horse races, and a cow-pie toss). Our beautiful star filled skies beckon you to the hot tub later in the evening for relaxation.
We take a special interest in each guest that visits us. Our warm western hospitality is enjoyed by all…you’ll meet our entire family. The majority of our guests come from southern California, but we have folks from all over the U.S. and Europe. We’ve already had guests from England, Holland, Greece, South Africa, and Australia this season, and we’re happy to say that our repeat guests account for 80% of our clientele.
Our historic cattle ranch has been family owned and operated since 1863 and guests enjoy hearing about its history and marvel at the fact that our children grow up here, go away to college, and return home to raise there families…4th, 5th , and 6th generation family members now live and work on the ranch. Join us here at the Quarter Circle U Rankin Ranch…we know you’ll leave refreshed and ready to tackle your hectic city life back home.

Everyone enjoys three home cooked meals each day at Rankin Ranch. The "GARDEN ROOM," where breakfast and dinner are served, is a beautiful, large dining area. Huge hanging plants seem to love the abundance of natural light that streams through the tall windows. Guests enjoy the enlarged photos of family members dating back to the mid 1800's; and the water color paintings by Helen Rankin. An old Houser cupboard and other cherished family heirlooms are used every day. Each evening when the dinner bell rings at 6:30, guests enter the "Garden Room" to find candle lit tables, linens and fresh flowers...these special touches add to your dining enjoyment. Salads are prepared, and served at your table...and a delicious buffet dinner follows. Everybody loves our home cooked meals...complete with fresh vegetables, top quality meats, and homemade breads and desserts. We're asked often about vegetarian diets...each lunch and dinner has a variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, pasta and breads. Everyone loves our food. A hearty breakfast is served anytime between 7:30 and 9:00am. If you are a light eater and prefer cereal or fruit, that's fine, but most of our guests enjoy our hash browns and eggs...waffles...or pancakes served with crisp bacon or smoked ham. We are one of the only ranches that gives you the opportunity to be an "early bird" or to "sleep in" in the morning...if you would rather sleep, we'll serve coffee and juice in Lightner Square after the regular breakfast hour. A full buffet lunch is served at 12:30 on the terrace which overlooks the swimming pool. Everyone enjoys the casual setting and our delicious food. Helen Rankin taught Rudy (Rankin Ranch cook over 30 years) many of the old family ranch recipes.
During the "Regular Season Periods" we offer fun planned activities for each evening, during the “Off Season” they are offered every other night. SQUARE DANCING and WESTERN LINE DANCING are usually on Friday or Saturday evenings. Adults and teens enjoy our POOL TOURNAMENTS with prizes. Children under 12 have FOOSEBALL TOURNAMENTS. Everybody loves the TALENT SHOWS, BINGO, and FUN HORSE RACES...children are the jockeys on stick horses and adults and teens bet on the winners with Rankin Ranch "Fun Money!"
