Estancia Ranquilco is a remote family-owned 100,000 acre horse and cattle ranch nestled in the foothills of the Andes. It is a vast expanse of land in Patagonia, stretching across leagues of high steppes, river valleys, grazing meadows, and jagged cliffs, into the very heart of the Argentine cordillera. Ranquilco’s western boundary is the border with Chile – the high country — graced with lakes, waterfalls, condors, hot springs, and weeks of wandering.

FULL DESCRIPTION OF LISTING
Estancia Ranquilco is a working guest ranch in Patagonia, Argentina. We run cattle and raise horses on 100,000 acres near the border with Chile. The family and staff at Estancia Ranquilco delight in welcoming guests to share their home and participate in daily ranch life. Although many guests come here exclusively to horse ride or fish, others want to enjoy all aspects of rural living, including experiencing the unique gaucho culture that is still alive on our remote ranch.
Come to Estancia Ranquilco and enjoy comfortable private cottages, fine Argentine wines, home-style Patagonian cooking and all the activities available on the ranch. Ranquilco also has a small swimming pool, river-side log sauna, and a volleyball court.
A traditional estancia vacation includes transfers from the trailhead by horse, accommodation in one of our three guest cottages: The Castle Room, Dossie’s, or The Apartment: all food and wine, and ranch activities–including some horse riding and fly fishing (if you want a riding or fishing focused trip, see Horse Riding or Fly Fishing).
Estancia Ranquilco has a range of accommodation options to fit everyone’s style. Three private cottages clustered around the main lodge – The Castle Room, Dossies House and The Apartment – are available for guests on our inclusive plans. Each cottage is distinctive in its architecture and furnishings and all have private bathrooms.
At Ranquilco, we are lucky enough to receive gifts directly from the land – fruit from our orchards, vegetables from our gardens, trout from the rivers, and meat from the meadows. Fresh milk comes from our cow.
Ashley provides a well rounded wine cellar filled with excellent Argentinean reds. We also enjoy bottling one or two barrels from Neuquen Province over the year.
Our cooks prepare Patagonian dishes for our guests using traditional ingredients. Most of our meals are served with fresh homemade bread and excellent local wine. Enjoy milanesas, empanadas, guisos (stews), fresh salads and soups.
