At Road’s End Nestled at the base of Sheriff Mountain at an elevation of 7,500 feet, at the end of a road that passes through rugged mountain terrain, alpine meadows, and pine forests sits Canyon Creek Guest Ranch. Located 17 miles from the nearest highway and surrounded by the Beaverhead National Forest and the proposed East Pioneer Wilderness Area, Canyon Creek Guest Ranch is literally at road’s end. At Canyon Creek Guest Ranch, the pace is slower, with few people “coming and going.” In fact, the Ranch’s guest capacity (seven cabins, two per cabin or as many as four per cabin) enables visitors to enjoy the solitude, privacy, and seclusion afforded by Canyon Creek Guest Ranch’s remote setting. Each party or family stays in their cabin complete with an environmentally-friendly pellet stove, comfortable beds, carpeted floors, and a modern bath. Gourmet meals are served family style in the main Lodge. Uniquely, Canyon Creek Guest Ranch is the one of the few guest ranches in Montana that generates its own power. Now that’s remote. And the six Alpine lakes, the first at an altitude of 9300 feet, are best visited via horseback. Fish where few have fished before, or enjoy a lakeshore picnic or afternoon respite at one of the mountain lakes. Off The Beaten Path With nature as its playing field, Canyon Creek Guest Ranch offers activities for everyone. If you’re in the mood to fish in blue ribbon rivers and lakes, Canyon Creek Guest Ranch organizes both guided river and alpine lake fishing trips. If you yearn to capture on film the fiery reds and golden yellows of a Montana sunrise, you can participate in an overnight pack trip. If your interest lies in the area’s history, you can take a tour of a historic mining town (there’s a half dozen in the area) or visit the Canyon Creek kilns where charcoal was once produced in epic amounts to fuel the nearby ore smelters. Maybe an all-day horseback ride, a walk among the mountain wildflowers, a scenic river float, or an interpretive tour is more your style. No matter your interest – even if it is sitting by the fire in main Lodge reading a good book – there is something at Canyon Creek Guest Ranch for everyone.
