Diamond D Ranch

The Diamond D Ranch is an adventurists dream come true!  There are no shortage of trails to ride, hike and explore.  There are streams, high mountain lakes and natural hot springs.  The fly fishing is world class and the scenery is unparalleled.  Wildlife are abundant and the area is a photographers paradise.  Perfect for family vacations, reunions, corporate retreats, weddings and honeymoons!  For an adventure you will never forget, come stay awhile at the Diamond D.
The Diamond D Ranch was initially a supply store for area mining operations in the mid-1800s.  As mining faded and interest grew in big game hunting and mountain stream fishing, the ranch developed into a guest ranch and hunting lodge.  The ranch is located in the heart of the 2.4 million acre Frank Church Wilderness area in central Idaho, and maintains its presence in a secluded valley at the confluence of three beautiful flowing streams.  The Diamond D Ranch has been owned and operated by the Demorest family for over 50 years.  John Demorest purchased the Diamond D Ranch in 1951 with a vision of the ranch becoming a guest ranch for many families to enjoy.  The Diamond D has had a lot of work and love put into it over the years and it is our hope and dream to continue for many, many years to come.

Accommodation Description:
The Diamond D Ranch is nestled in a valley in the Frank Church Wilderness and is surrounded by the Salmon River mountains. Many of our guests enjoy cracking a window at night and listening to the sounds of the bubbling stream and the wind in the trees from the comfort of their cabin. The Diamond D Ranch offers modern accomodations including three two-bedroom cabins (each holding six people), one large four-bedroom cabin which will sleep ten, two suites (Honeymoon and Ranch suites), each holding a single or couple comfortably. All cabins and suites have a private bathroom and porch or deck with views of golden sunrises, rippling aspen, fields of wildflowers, and horses galloping across the meadows, and star filled skies. The main lodge has five lodge rooms. Part of the main Lodge was built in the very early 1900's, which was the original Coleman homestead house. In 1916, what is our present living room, was added onto the lodge as a post office, dance hall, saloon, and restaurant. The Demorest family first came onto the ranch in 1951 with plans of developing the ranch as a guest ranch knowing there was lots of hard work to do. In 1961 Tom Demorest continued to add to the lodge, by developing a kitchen area, bathroom facilities, and dining room (which expanded the first floor of the lodge by 50%). Now the lodge serves as the main gathering area for dining, games, and fireside conversation.

Entertainment:
The Diamond D Ranch is situated in the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states. The Frank Church Wilderness is approximately 2.4 million acres. There is an endless amount of country and wildlife to see, streams to fish and mountains in which to hike or horseback ride. The Diamond D Ranch offers several activities daily, however participation is completely up to the individual. Two guided trailrides are offered most days with the exception of an all day lunch ride on Fridays. A full day guided hike is offered on Wednesdays to one of many beautiful destinations, including Mystery Lake, Owens Hotsprings, and Summitt Ridge. Lake and Stream fishing is always a popular activity. Loon creek has been noted as one of the best flyfishing streams in Idaho and we have had many return guests because of that. Please inquire about our flyfishing/packtrips and flyfishing/backpacking trips. Our standard packtrips are three to five days, however given enough notice we can make other arrangements. Some of our other activities include gold panning, horseshoe pits, volleyball, archery, target and skeet shooting, barbecues, campfires, swimming in our pool, or relaxing in our hot tub, wonderful wildlife viewing and scenic trips.
